Originated from Sub-Saharan Africa from roughly 2.4 to 1.5 million years ago. First fossils were founded in Northern Tanzania between 1959 to 1960. The brain size of this species is larger then that of the Australopithecus afarensis. Has an expanded cerebrum in specifically the parietal and frontal lobes. Average height ranged from 3 foot 4 inches to 4 foot 5 inches. Average weight was 70 pounds. Had proportionally long legs. Had arms that were well adapted to swinging and climbing. They coexisted with other hominids such as the Homo Erectus. Used some sort of tools to butcher animals after hunting. Fruit was a larger part of their diet rather than meat. fossils were found in Africa and East Asia. originated around 1.9 million years ago in Africa. Found evidence of movement between the species in East Africa. Had larger teeth than modern humans. Had a receded forehead as shown in the image. Also the jaw and nose were very wide. Had a strong brow width, and longer face. Size was larger expanding from 4 foot 9 inches to 6 feet tall. Weight ranged from 90 to 150 pounds. Very similar limbs as modern humans, such as the shoulders. Was reportedly the first species to record a fire. This allowed for better survival. This provides evidence of evolution for scientists. Sources: https://www.britannica.com/topic/Homo-erectus/Behavioral-inferences https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homo_erectus |
lived around 40,000 to 400,000 years ago in Europe and Southwestern to Asia.
Created complicated tools, controlled fire, hunted game, made clothing, and lived in shelters. Height for males was around 5 foot 5 inches. For females it was 5 foot 1 inch. Male weights were around 143 pounds. Females weighed about 119 pounds. They were adapted well to cold climates. There arms and legs were both very muscular, which helped them hunt and make shelters. The vocal tract of the Neanderthalensis were very similar to those of modern humans. Neanderthalensis made tools not only for hunting. They used tools to make ornaments, colorants, and for image making on rocks or other objects.
